Amy Sweasy is a 1995 graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School and a 1990 graduate of the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota. She has taught at area law schools for 15 years, and since 2020 at the U of M. She currently teaches Evidence Law, Evidence Drafting, and Trial Practice at the Law School, as well as an undergraduate Honors Seminar titled Understanding Police Use of Force. She worked as a prosecutor in the Hennepin County Attorney’ Office for 28 years, most recently as a Principal Attorney leading the office's Complex Prosecution Unit which handled legally and/or factually complicated felony prosecutions and targeted prosecution resources to crimes requiring specialized expertise and attention. She has tried over 100 felony jury trials from theft to first-degree murder and specialized in elder abuse, child abuse, violent crime, and police use-of-force cases in her prosecution career.
